Oregon Panthers Girls Wrestling History

Although the Oregon girls wrestling program wasn't officially established until the 2024-2025 school year, girls have been making history on the mat at Oregon High School for nearly two decades.

It all began in 2005, when Jessica Skinner became the first female wrestler at OHS, paving the way for future generations. In the 2016-2017 season, Jade Durmaj made history as the first--and only--female from OHS to qualify for the boys varsity sectionals at 113 lbs. A few years later, during the 2019-2020 season, Lexi Verhage captured the Unofficial Folkstyle State Championship at the Wisconsin High School Girls Championships in Wausau, competing at 182 lbs.

Oregon sent five wrestlers--Raven Ringhand, Cora Tesch, Emily Kramer, Julia Ibrahim, and Ashlynd Schnelle--to the inaugural WIAA Girls State Wrestling Tournament in La Crosse during the 2021-2022 season. Raven earned the program's first-ever state tournament victory with a dominant 10-1 major decision over Elsja Meijer of Glenwood City.

The 2023-2024 season marked another milestone, as Raven Ringhand, Lily Farris, Teagan Simpson, and Kayla Clevenger all qualified for the WIAA Girls State Tournament at the Kohl Center in Madison.

On January 26, 2024, the Panthers hosted their first official girls dual against the Kickapoo-La Farge Youth Initiative Predators—-also the first girls dual in Dane County--and earned a decisive 48-24 victory, the first dual win in school history. Just one week later, on February 3, 2024, the team captured the Badger Girls Conference Team Championship, highlighted by individual titles from Jada Oparie-Addoh (152 lbs) and Eris Resendez (165 lbs). The season concluded with Oregon ranked #10 in the state, reflecting the program's rapid growth and competitiveness.

In September 2024, Oregon High School officially sanctioned girls wrestling as an independent sport, recognizing years of dedication from female athletes, coaches, and supporters. Peter Eckhart, who helped build the girls program, was officially named Oregon High School's first-ever Girls head wrestling coach. During the 2024-2025 inaugural season, the program continued to raise the bar, recording the most dual wins in a single season (4) and celebrating Teagan as the school's first-ever three-time Girls State Qualifier (2023, 2024, 2025).

To date, 27 young women have proudly represented Oregon High School on the mat - each helping build the lasting legacy of Oregon Girls Wrestling alumni.
